This animation takes the average plate
motion observed over the past one million years and
projects it 100 million years into the future. The model
does not account for continental collisions, subduction,
or sea-floor spreading; it simply shows where continents
would end up if they were to keep moving in their current
directions at their current rates. Examine areas where
two or more of Earth's plates would overlap in
the future. Imagine how Earth's actual plates might
respond to the projected plate motion.
