Latinoamérica: Información general

There are twenty predominantly Spanish-speaking countries in the world, nineteen of which are in Latin America. With a classmate, visit some of the Web sites on this page to find out interesting and diverse information about those countries. Each of you will select one Latin American country. Gather some general information on the countries of your choice in order to role-play that you are from those countries. In Spanish, introduce each other and exchange information about the country you each selected. Use the following dialog as an example:

¡Hola!

Just south of the border of the United States lies our most influential neighbor in the Americas: Mexico. This beautiful land is a fascinating modern country immersed in a culture-rich past. Explore the Web sites on this page to increase your understanding of Mexican culture.

Mexico has a lot to offer its visitors, don't you think? Now, tour Mexico with a classmate through your favorite sites. Plan ahead of time what the two of you would like to do while you are there. You may wish to discuss these sites with a partner as you visit them. Use the following dialog as an example:

¿Dónde está México: en Norte, Centro o Sudamérica?

¿Dónde están los lugares que nos interesa visitar?

Ecuador y Perú: Otros vecinos americanos

You have already "visited" Ecuador in Activity 1. You found out that Ecuador is located on the Pacific side of South America and shares frontiers with Colombia and Peru. Now, you can learn more about this country and explore one of its regions, the Galapagos Islands, as Charles Darwin did in 1835. Embark on a nature journey and discover the natural beauty of the islands' wildlife and vegetation.

Peru, south of Ecuador, is another South American country rich in natural beauty and fascinating culture. Continue your cyber-journey across South America with a classmate. What is the capital of Peru? Where is the city of Cuzco? Visit these Web sites on Peru and enjoy an exciting archaeological adventure! If you enjoy music, accompany your travels with the sounds of Peruvian valses.
