¿Qué tiempo va a hacer en Chile?

Chile, an amazing country of varied people, topography and climate, extends about twenty-six hundred from end to end, yet it is less than two hundred miles wide. The Atacama Desert in the northern part of the country has arid but temperate areas; the heartland, in the Central Valley, enjoys pleasant weather most of the year, while the Chilean Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego areas in the south offer spectacular snow-and-ice Arctic landscapes and below-freezing windchills. Visit Chile with a partner and explore these sites. In Spanish, talk about the weather and the kind of clothing required for the exciting activities you could engage in once you arrive in this South American land. Converse as follows:

Dress casual and light on your visit to Santiago, the capital of Chile. Wander through its European-like boulevards, avenidas , and plazas. Spend some time in its fine museums; stop for a bite and have some empanadas chilenas. Escape to the beach in Viña del Mar in the morning and go skiing in the Andes in the afternoon, then have dinner in Santiago's Bellavista district. ¿Te gustaría hacer esas cosas? Go ahead!

Escribe como Mistral y Neruda

The writing of poetry is one of those things that we all do at one point or another, but find hard to admit. Why? Perhaps because through this art form the most intimate and personal of feelings are usually expressed. Surely you have also dabbled in writing poetry or songs about happy or sad feelings. Maybe you still do occasionally, so here is a small challenge for you. Write a short poem in Spanish giving commands to somebody or something. You could also use negative commands in your poem. Look at this sample poem.

A mi perro yo le digo: ¡corre, salta, siéntate! Siempre me obedece y es mi mejor amigo.
For a country as small as Chile to have two of its poets receive the Nobel Prize in Literature is quite a cultural feat. Chile can boast that Gabriela Mistral received this prize in 1945, as did Pablo Neruda in 1971. Visit these sites to get some background information on these two great Chilean writers. You might get some ideas for your poem!

¿Quiénes vivían en la Isla de Pascua?

What is the meaning of the hauntingly large heads and monoliths that guard Easter Island? Who were the inhabitants of la Isla de Pascua, and where did they come from? To this date, these questions have no definitive answers. Easter Island was annexed to Chile in 1888, but the origins of its past inhabitants are the cause of abundant, creative, and farfetched theories. However, the general belief is that the authors of the moais were Polynesian. Browse these sites, and compile facts about this mysterious island's past. Then, answer these questions in Spanish:
¿Quién tenía el único lenguaje escrito de Oceanía?
¿Cómo se llamaba?

¿Qué país ayudó a Chile a restaurar los moais de Pascua?

¿Quién le puso el nombre de Pascua a la isla? ¿Por qué?
