México D. F. : ¡Qué gran ciudad!

Mexico City, or el Distrito Federal, as chilangos refer to their native city, is an enormous urban metropolis. With a population of almost twenty-two million people, it offers its visitors a myriad of diversions and cultural activities: museums, beautiful parks, floating gardens, archeological ruins. With a classmate, investigate what fun things young people can do in la Ciudad de México. You could converse with a classmate as follows:

¿Qué te gustaría hacer? Podemos ir de compras o ir al cine.

No me gusta ir de compras, pero me encanta pasear por la ciudad.
¿Te gustaría ir conmigo al Bosque de Chapultepec?

As you and your classmate stroll in the park, visit the Castle of Chapultepec. What institution does it house at the present time? Continue down to the National Museum of Anthropology. What attracts your attention most?

¿Qué hacen los muchachos en La Quebrada?

You have "been" to a very exciting vacation place! In Spanish, ask a classmate what he or she thought about Acapulco:

Rock en español

Do you enjoy listening to music? What kind of music do you prefer? In Mexico as in the rest of Latin America, young people enjoy listening to rock music in English, but they also like to hear it in Spanish. There are many Mexican groups, such as Café Tacuba, Caifanes, Maldita Vecindad, and Maná, that have become popular because of the fusion music they have created by mixing rock with their country's native and folkloric rhythms. On your own, investigate some of the grupos roqueros in the following sites.

Which group did you like best? Were you able to listen to any of their songs?
Now, share the information you have found with a classmate. Use the following as a dialog example:

¿Qué tipo de música te gusta escuchar?

¿Te gusta escuchar discos de rock en español?

¿Qué grupos conoces?
