The art of mural painting has been a Mexican tradition since pre-Columbian times. Along with Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jose Clemente Orozco is the third great Mexican muralist of our times. Orozco's best mural work is considered to be at the Hospicio Cabañas, in Guadalajara. Browse through these Web sites. What seems to be the main theme of the murals by these three masters? What fascinates you most about this art form? Why dou you think that Orozco is considered to be the best of the muralists, even though Rivera is better known outside of Mexico? Discuss these questions with your friend "Mario."

Many advanced cultures existed in pre-Columbian Mexico. Each left traces of its presence in architecture and art, which has helped archeologists uncover great civilizations such as the Aztec and the Mayan. As people go about their business in downtown Mexico City, they are in constant contact with history as they walk past the renmants and ruins of the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan, on which the Spanish built their colonial cathedral. Browse through these Web sites with a classmate, and increase your understanding of pre-Columbian Mexico. Converse as follows:
¿Quieres visitar Teotihuacán conmigo?
Sí, y también quiero visitar Chichen Itzá contigo.
