One needn't wonder why the city of Segovia in Spain has been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage City. A stroll through its streets reminds us of its Roman, Arabic, Jewish, and Christian historythis city is a true melting pot of cultures and architecture. Look closely at the imposing Roman aqueduct, built around 50 A.D., which raises and dominates almost any view of the city. Visit the Alcazar, and marvel at this Mudejar-gothic palace and fortress. Admire the monumental gothic cathedral of Segovia. Walk by the medieval wall that surrounds Old Segovia. Now look at images of those places as you browse these Web sites with a classmate. Discuss what you thought of them as follows:
¿No te pareció bellísima la catedral?
Es preciosa, pero a mí me gustó más _______. ¡Los romanos eran unos ingenieros increíbles!
¿No estuvo impresionante el tour del Alcázar?
¡El tour estuvo buenísimo! El Alcázar me gustó tanto como la _______, pero menos que el _________.
¡Qué lástima que el tiempo se nos fue tan rápidamente en Segovia!

Your class is going to celebrate a Spanish culinary festival! Today, you will select recipes for regional dishes and then choose the best one among the entries. As you are learning, Spanish food varies from region to region. The gazpacho andaluz has many variants, the same as paella valenciana. As you browse through these Spanish recipes sites, keep in mind that in the activities for Unit 5 you learned what tapas are while you explored a vast dictionary of culinary terms. You may visit those sites again as you search for recipes for this culinary festival.
After selecting your entry for the festival, converse with a classmate about the ingredients your recipes need:
¿Lleva cebollas tu receta? ¿aceite de oliva? ¿ajo? ¿tomates?
¿Tienes que freír algo en tu receta?
